What brand and model is your piano? I really like it!
Anonymous

It’s a Yamaha Clavinova CVP-203, and at this point it’d be about 11 years old. Seeing as electric pianos have a rather high output of new models, I’m fairly sure this has been discontinued - still, I’m sure the newer ones have only really improved. For example, my piano is the currently only electronic appliance in my house that can read floppy discs - newer models use SD cards. Although, to a professional pianist, the feel and weighting of the keys is generally all that matters; I’m not sure if that would’ve been upgraded, though I don’t see why they would need to. Of course, this is ignoring the fact that all professional pianists would avoid playing on an electric piano at any cost.

For my more recent videos, the sound you hear is not actually coming from the piano; I’m basically using it as a glorified midi controller for Steinway D samples, which I suppose could be considered the standard popular concert grand.

Also, unrelated to the question, but my favourite grand piano would be a Bösendorfer - I just prefer the sound (crisp) and feel (light).

Favourite Instruments, based on Tone Colour

Cello - Richness of tone, the emotion that can be put into it, and huge variety of unique sounds that can be produced when played in certain ways probably makes this my top choice - not that this list is in any sort of order

Dulcimer - Clear unique twangy tone, and I love the precision that’s possible to get at speed

Bass Clarinet - I love instruments in deep lower registers, and the growly sound the bass clarinet produces is just mmmm

Piano - Depends on how it’s being played, really. Think this; the piano here has been muted and amplified

French Horn - A very full sound, which can be greatly altered when the dynamic level is changed - from extremely brassy to very mellow. The ability for the instrument to blend with nearly anything makes it all the better

Acoustic Guitar - When played in the classical sense the clarity and variety in sound, as well as complete control, is fabulous

Marimba - Very full and smooth sound, with a great dynamic range. A natural sound, I suppose? Either way, beautiful.

what if years from now homestuck is regarded as a piece of classic literature taught in high school English classes

veri-pageofknowledge:

teacher: class take out your homestuck volume one turn to page 140
students: omg we’re going to have a quiz today what’s godtier again I should have studied
: do we have to read the pesterlogs
: i think I’ll just look up the intermission on sparknotes tonight
: ugh I can’t understand a word in this did andrew hussie even know proper english
: name all the trolls in order of blood caste what help

I’ve actually used Homestuck (next to Beowulf and Lord of the Rings) as a supplementary text for a high school English assessment on the archetypal hero, and how modern interpretations have been influenced by medium and context.

Full marks.

Did I ever mention just how long Cobalt Corsair took to make? This is why.

Where is your new DP From? Who drew it? It's nice! Is that what you really look like?

Yep, that’s me! It is nice, isn’t it? (I’m so happy with how it turned out, eeee)

It was commissioned from the lovely and talented Dawn (playerprophet); I loved the other icons (and pretty much everything) she’d made, and decided that I MUST HAVE ONE FOR MYSELF. I believe she’s currently taking commissions if you’re interested yourself.

I’ve been putting this off for long enough, so today I went back and fixed Vodka Mutiny.

I wasn’t actually very happy with the final album version - through no fault of Radiation’s though! After I finished my solo album and went back to it I was like, ugh, what was I even doing? Why does this sound so horrible? So I fired up the project file again and it turns out I managed to over-compress everything p. much, which is why it ended up sounding so washed-out.

I have NO idea how I let that pass.

SO here’s the final version of Vodka Mutiny; I probably won’t be coming back to this. Downloads currently mp3 only. Also: they’re not properly tagged; if anyone knows Things about mp3 metadata and how I should go about tagging these, drop me an ask!!

Oh sweet, one of my favourite tracks from Universe B sounds even better now!

I admire your work so much and you are one of my biggest role models for piano. Every time I'm stuck in a musical rut, I pop one of your songs/covers on and I'm back in no time. I also came to fanboy because wow I looooooove Dapper Duelling so much! I like the whole western/~pirate? feel I get from it and especially the ending I enjoy *☆(ゝω・`)┏┏ double pistols and a wink*

Oh my gosh all these nice words

And that emoticon, yes.

Dapper Dueling - Context

So, I was a HUGE fan of Dapper Dueling when you first put up the original version, but I LOVE what you did with it for the Homestuck music contest. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next, because holy crap you are talented. What inspired you with this one, since it’s telling me to ask you something? It has a very Firefly, Joss Whedon sort of feel to it, which I personally really like about it.

Dapper Dueling was inspired originally by a Steampunk band named The Cog is Dead - after listening to the song I just linked, I tried to take down the general feel and basic instrumentation, and then work on my own from there. Instruments used in the piece are:

- Acoustic Guitars
- Accordion
- Whistle Synth (fun fact, I’m pretty sure it’s the same one as used in Horchestra)
- Banjo
- Harmonica (1:14, panned left)
- Violin/Fiddle
- Full string section (1:28)
- Maracas, castanets, very very faint snare (you can hear it at 0:10, under the whistle), constant bass drum beat
- bang bang wink

I also gave the original Showtime strife mix a few listens for the purpose of structuring my piece - after all, it’s meant to be a Strife theme. However, pretty much all sources of inspiration were only used in the parts before the banjo solo; the rest was just me having fun with music.

Let me also point out that it made me extremely happy to see in canon that Jake bounces from side to side before he is about to fight; it was the exact image of him I was hoping for.

Also, while composing, I imagined Dapper Dueling to fit a fight scene similar to this, from Sherlock Holmes (2009).

Homestuck Music Contest Entry #2 - Embittered Shore (MTaHK)

This second entry is one for Mobius Trip and/or Hadron Kaleido - it’s a bit more serious than my first. The idea behind this is, I suppose, what I believed the story behind MT&HK is from the album, in particular No Release and Lies with the Sea. I see the entire concept as highly Romantic, with metaphorical emphasis on the feminine Nature (Hadron) vs. masculine Science (Mobius) development that was a popular topic of creative exploration in the 19th century.

Artwork has been used with permission by the awesome Tavia; I would also like to point out that this song is in no way officially endorsed by either Bowman, Tavia or What Pumpkin.

This was my entry that didn’t make it into either of the two albums - as promised, here is a download link (320 MP3)
